This clip show the deforestation rate of Tripa Peat Swamp forest in the past 2 decades, leading to the destruction of approx. 40,000 ha of low land peat forest, the habitat of previously around 1000 critically endangered Sumatran orangutans. Now, experts estimate only around 200 Sumatran orangutans struggle for survival in the remaining fragmented forest of Tripa.

An excellent use of satellite imagery and digital technology to illustrate the destruction of an important ecosystem. Should be required viewing by all people, who like the frog in the heating pot, may not know the severity of the problem until it is far too late.
