This is a chess Pawn moddel tutorial for 3d studio max 9. With the help of the lathe modifier it's possible to make objects from a spline/line. Check out www.VisualKnights.com for more tutorials. If you have any questions or request, just ask us!! If you have complaints, tell us about it in a normal way. Thanx. A free moddel of the pawn can be downloaded from our website.

  • can u take the top of a regular cartoon image to create like the rounded top of the chess piece if ur creating one like this?

  • that depends on your cartoons images. If the side are more the less the same on every side then the lathe modifier is your option. When you want to create something like a cartoon head, then you proabaly wanna use spline cage modeling. See the tutorial about "Creating the knight".

  • uhm.. when I open the chess image, then I don't get a blank screen as you have, but the top view port is covered with that image.. : /

  • make sure that you have the viewport selected where you want to have the image being displayed in.
