  • To "trymom50". You have the right idea. You put the screen to the door jab, and all the way down to the bottom sill. There is (as shown), a bottom sill to compensate for a slight elevation. Yes, you would then have a space on top, as even I stated. A small would filler strip, (2.00), some metal flashing, (5.00), and some paint, (outdoor spray 7.00), and your good to go. I still support this over having a screen in view. And find it more replaceable down the road than that big A brand!

  • I would also suggest looking from the inside of the door out (since you will have the door open, that is why your adding a screen). You will see the filler strip in the wood color your have put there. Some exterior paint, or rustolem paint will help to prevent unsightly cosmetic appearance. Im, not a anal person. But to spend all that time to install a new item you spent good money on, which end up looking like a patch together project would be disheartening.

    Would love a manufacturer coupon!

  • I like the door design. I would probably purchase one. The video is not bad....But.

When the video installs this door. They dont not show him adding the filler strip on the top of the door. The strip causes a gap between the top plate and the top screen housing. You can clearly see a 3/4 at least gap in the video. I would suggest a few dollars in metal flashing, and some caulk or rustolem paint. This would prevent moisture from hitting the wood and decaying it over a short time! VERY IMPORTANT!

  • We purchased this retractable screen door & will not install it. If you install the screen so it completely attaches to the jam, you have a 3/4 inch lip on the sill that you have to walk/trip over. If you put the bottom of the screen flush to the sill, the top is 1-1/2 shorter than the top of the door jam. Oh, one more thing...instructions are elementary-at best, you may get 5 sentences/section. Why not make the screen to fit the door size as it claims to? Pkg claims it will fit our door size.
