Faith and the Muse - Cernunnos [lyrics]

A song about the celtic god Cernunnos:
Cernunnos (also Cernenus and Cern) is a pagan Celtic god whose representations were widespread in the ancient Celtic lands of western Europe. As a horned god, Cernunnos is associated with horned male animals, especially stags and the ram-horned snake; this and other attributes associate him with produce and fertility.

Beneath the sediment of eons
In ancient repose
My trust lay eroded by age
The old glory faded
And past times forgotten
My reign given way to my rage

Harmonious the centuries
The land and I were one
My soil, my water, my air
Bringer of light
And master of night
In balance, the earth in my care

But with the passing of days
A new wind came blowing
With whispers of change on its wing
This tide of corruption
Laid siege to my world
Usurping the throne of a king

Your new gods, your new ways
All seek to dispel me
With doctrines of fear built on lies
The hidden one, no longer
I claim my dominion
To the sun of your age, I arise

Of your anger
Your ignorance
Your blindness
Your greed
Your progress
Your conquest
Your mania
Your need
Your sorrow
Your sickness
Your final, parting breath
Your hatred
Your bloodshed
Your future
Your death

I will have none
I will have none
I will have none
I will have none

I, dread lord of shadows
With broken spell
Unto this rotting age
I bid farewell

Blessed be

  • Right, I'll ask again: does anybody know where to find a clean picture like the one you see at 3:13-3:15? Google's not helping.

  • @Bonanzuolo It seems i have my collection of Cernunnos pictures on my old harddrive, i will look it up at try to fetch the pictures. This one should be among them. I am having no luck refinding it through Google either. You could try to widen your search results by searching combined with other names of Cernunnos, like Herne and Pan.

  • Hail Cernunnos, where did you get the fotos?

I love this song, great video,

    Blessed be

  • @steev75 I just google on Cernunnos/Herne/Pan etc. every once in a while.

  • As a nature god, Cernunnos is considered really powerful... but this song is exemplary of how more recent religions, undermining the old, took the Horned God and incorporated him into the Satan figure.

I think that, aside from the hurt to nature humans have done, hating this god's image without knowing him is the real insult...

  • @LilithMacLeod Cernunnos answered me more than once. He is very loving and is my Father. All of our tears and fears go before him and he sees them, and he does his best to make them vanish or better. Cernunnos is amazing and im glad he answred you. Many blessings.

  • I thought he said " bringer of life" hmm anyway very Nice song :)

  • @kenzington02 Well, technically the representation of the horned God as the 'devil' was a construct of the Roman Catholic movement to further war efforts against the Pagans of Europe. They twisted the image of the generous and everlasting Cernunnos to fit their warmongering.

  • Thanks to liam, i have had this song on my mind. i recomend watching it through and reading the lyrics, it is a message that i endorse whole heartedly.

  • In face of Divinity human's accusations are actually confessions of the human nature, because it is the human that is enslaved by sinful nature not God. This song represents of course Cernunnos's answer to what humanity has done to God and Name.

  • Such power...

I love you Cernunnos. I know you are my patron god now. I know it with all of my heart!

  • @Haneul. Lucifer is the twisted, bastardized version of Cernnunos. He is a tool that the Christians made up to make people hate and fear the the Horned God. So, imo, being drawn to Lucifer sounds more like at f-u to your church and less like natal reverence for The Lord.

  • @Airethilien Yeah I tried looking for it as well..I'm almost thinking bout looking on deviant art. I love the vid.

  • You know I think Cernunnos was calling for me even before I knew Wicca existed. I HATED the Protestant church when I was small (and still do), but for some reason I had always liked Lucifer and always felt pity, grief, and sorrow for him. (Basically if I could have penpals with him I would have jumped at the 1st opportunity.) I was confused as to why, so I told my family but all they told me to do was just hate him cuz he hated me, but I didn't want to. You don't know how HAPPY this vid made me.

  • @SilverBellsAbove he is kind of like Lilith he got a bad rep
