A rally with over 200 protestors marched from Pantages Theatre in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver, to Olympic Village in False Creek.

The rally was the kick-off to the Olympic Village Tent City 2011. The tent city had three demands:

1. Resident-controlled 100% social housing for ALL unsold units at the Olympic Village.

2. The purchase of a minimum 10 sites per year in the Downtown Eastside, and the creation of resident controlled 100% social housing on all those sites.

3. An END to the criminalization of poverty by immediately abolishing Project Civil City, overturning anti-street vending by-laws and all anti-poor discriminatory legislation and by raising welfare rates.

  • Should have a look at what is happening with the facilities in Delhi built for the commonwealth games being unused and allowed to be vacant and not maintained before complaining too much about this.

  • Bunch of degenerate blood sucking losers, should all be ashamed.. lets all go to Shang ri La and protest the middle class deserve to live in high end apartments!

  • I totally agree!

  • The nreve of these dirt bags to demand that me and other hard working tax payer's give them a place to live . I'm working two jobs just to pay my mortgage and these piece's of human debris want me to pay for them as well . Screw you go get a job .

  • Warning citizens of Vancouver that they are trespassing on city property is ironic in the extreme. It goes with the phenomena of making promises you have no intention of keeping just to get your own way. I salute the participants at this demo in their struggle for justice and dignity in our society.
