Go Light Your World

Footage of the "Go Light Your World" skit that we performed at SHOCKWAVE '08 (October 11, 2008)!


The concept of this dramatic-performance-to-song ("Go Light Your World" by Chris Rice) is taken from Jesus' words in Matthew 5:14-16 in which he proclaims:

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."


SYNOPSIS:
Using the backdrop of a typical New York street scene, the drama opens up with a street preacher faithfully proclaiming the Gospel message. Having already accepted Christ as savior, his candle is already lit. While preaching, he catches the attention of a young girl passing by. As she decides to trust Christ as her savior, her candle is also lit up. The light of Christ progressively goes out to a young man struggling with drug addiction & a young woman caught in a physically abusive relationship. Little by little, as the Gospel message is proclaimed, the entire street scene is lit up. Finally, the flame filters into the entire audience, symbolizing the evangelistic duty we have as Christians to shine & take the light of Christ into a darkened world.


*** As a side note, we felt that it was hugely profound & symbolic how an entire group of over 300 people ends up holding lit candles, yet it all starts with just a single flame in the very beginning.
