This is a Whelen WS-2000R/400R tested on the first Monday of each month. It has a brief wind-up and I didn't cut off the wind up so listen closely. The frequency is confirmed with Audacity with 784 Hz!

A horn speaker has a tube (which is not visible) that comes out to the deflecter (which is the visible piece at the center of the horn) and sound is deflected to the back of the horn. Finally, the sound is defelected outward.

Update: St. Louis County's new warning sirens are operational since September of 2011. This siren along with the other former warning sirens are scheduled to be removed by December. The county had spent $7.5 million on the new system.

  • R.I.P Whelen WS-2000R. 1982 to 2010.

  • @Siren1000T1 Make that until the end of 2011. That's when all older sirens would disposed. The new ones would be working by June of 2011.

  • @WhelenWS3016 its still up but i dont know if its working

  • @soccerk8te38 I don't think that's working. It's still standing and about to come down. However, the old system was active for August's test. Maybe I'll hear the new system in September.
