The treaty of Versailles was practically responsible for the war! The ridiculous terms led to German depression, thus leading to a high unemployment rate, thus leading to Hitlers promises to make things better! Thus leading to Hitler's rise to power!

Understand that Germany had been violating the Treaty of Versailles for years. The Nazis wanted war, they instigated war. They militarized the Rhineland, built fighter planes, expanded their army, united Germany with Austria and more. All of this was a direct violation of the Treaty of Versailles yet the UK did nothing. It was only until Germany invaded Poland that the UK was forced to take action. There were many opportunities to snuff out Nazi Germany but UK wanted peace...

What you say is undeniably true, the United States did not enter the war to protect anyone else besides itself. It is admirable the UK declared war in order to protect one of its allies, and far more admirable is the tenacity with which they fought. However, you cannot deny that without the addition of the US the Germans, Japanese and Italians would have eventually conquered Europe and the quite possibly the rest of the world.

You saved no-ones ass but your own. Remember that the USA did NOT enter WW2 to aid its allies. The US ONLY entered WW2 after pearl harbour was bombed and Germany declared war on you. You were fighting for your own survival. The difference between the USA and the UK, is that the UK recognised the threat of Nazism, and the UK declared war on Germany, and Germany declared war on the US.

The Nazis were not bent opn European domination, they were hellbent on world domination.

Even us who hates war have to accept that not all see war this way and therefor we must be ready to defend ourselves. And that is why the British Empire had its fines hour during and before WW2. Despite what some say, the whole world owes their thanks to the Royal Air Force. Had they not beaten back the Nazis then UK had fallen. Then Hitler had the full power to go against Sovjet Union. When they had fallen, it had been USA next.
