@lawplanet12 - Thank you. I grew up singing in NYC All City Music Chorus...my position was 1st Alto and I used to HATE how 'boring' our position was. I thought the sophranos were so lucky. It took some good old fashion wisdom later on down the road to realize how important of a role we played as 1st altos but mostly how none of it would sound right without ALL of the ingredients - sopranos, altos, tenors, baritones and bass, alike.

Otis is the man period, read the book.Otis was the glue that keeps the Temps together past and present he is a phenom.A toast to you Big O THE MAN.
-
People taking shots at Otis is getting kind of old. No he was not the greatest singer in the group but he was the one that held them together. As great of singers as the other Temps were, I don't think the group would of lasted long without Otis and Melvin. Would have been too many egos fighting for lead singing spots.

@lawplanet12 I totally agree, in addition to singing 2nd tenor, Otis also sang 1st tenor and baritone, because of the different leads, Paul, Eddie, David and even when Dennis joined the group, he was able to switch his range to accommodate the respective leads with the harmony remaining intact.

For The Misinformed: Otis Williams is the 2nd Tenor in The Temptations....The 2nd Tenor is thee MOST important harmony note when it comes to vocal harmony because it's the glue that holds the Baritone & 1st Tenor together...Otis knew his position & played it well...he knew that though he could sing a few lines (which he did especially on the later 60's stuff), Eddie, David & Paul were the BETTER lead singers which is why you never saw Otis trying to fight for a lead song

I'm so obsessed with the legendary, great Temptations. Everyone has an opinion and degrade Otis and David as people when in fact, we are all imperfect "outsiders looking in" and don't know the real story (despite what the movie projects or what Otis says because the others aren't here to speak for themselves) so who are we to judge? The fact of the matter is, they were great, professional entertainers even if they suffered personally. They all played a role in eachother's success. Love them all.
