http://www.ProCPR.org - Performing neonatal basic life support is very similar in technique to performing infant (1 year or less) CPR. However, there are some points that are differentiated for neonatal life support. A neonatal patient is 1 month of younger and usually considered a newborn. The main differentiation is that neonatal CPR is primarily airway breathing and circulation focused. Child and infant CPR instead focuses on compressions first. Neonates are so driven from a lack of oxygen that it is the primary concern that they get the oxygen they need. 3 compressions to 1 respiration is recommended for a neonatal patient. Heart rate, blood pressure, movement, and color of the neonate are the primary aspects to look at when providing basic life support.
