Aci Trezza (Trizza in Sicilian) is a fraction of the town of Aci Castello, in the province of Catania. A fishing village of ancient and great tradition, is famous for its scenery. The view of Aci Trezza is dominated by rocks of the Cyclops: eight picturesque basalt rocks that, according to legend, were thrown by Polyphemus to Ulysses during his escape. It was the country in which Giovanni Verga's famous novel The Malavoglia (1881) and in which, in 1948, was filmed The Earth Trembles Luchino Visconti and Antonio Pietrangeli, a masterpiece of neo-realism made with nonprofessional actors locals.
