Trach care supplies
*2 pkgs. sterile q-tips (total 4 sticks)
*small cup (the ones from liquid tylenol) of sterile water
*4X4 Drain sponge(sterile)
*small wet wash cloth
*alcohol wipes
*lotion
*trach ties
Trach Care:
*take outer trach tie off
*get 2 q-tips, put in sterile water, take one and roll outward under trach.
*take other roll outward above trach
*do same steps but with 2 dry Q-tips
*undo one side of remaining trach tie, get cloth and clean neck, alcohol wipe neck,put lotion on neck.
*put on new trach tie on side that is clean.
*turn head and do the same for other side of neck.
*after the new trach tie is on put 4X4 under trach.
*put on outside trach tie, always check to make sure ties aren't too tight.

my son just got his and im scared as hell to do it. he doesnt need his in for a long time though, so im hoping. depressing as all hell.

Thank you so much for this posting. I gives others a little insight into what we as parents of trach gives have to do to keep our little angels alive and well. She is indeed a princess. I have a 17mth old that has had a trach since he was 10dys old. He gives my life new meaning everyday.
