@HnFLabs I remember the SCTV skit too -- but he was a singing werewolf!
I saw Gino in concert in Dallas (or Fort Worth -- long time ago, can't remember, yada yada...) and he was great. I went camping with a bunch of people I didn't know a few weeks later and one of the guys there -- a real party animal -- says "I saw the best show awhile back..." and I figured he'd say Molly Hatchet or something... "... it was Gino Vannelli..." Couldn't believe it! We became fast friends after that. Good times.

Some of the best music you will ever hear is from this man!

How many people can pull off song after song in minor keys without all being blues or broken heart songs? This song got my attention in 76, and I've been a fan of the singing gorilla (an old SCTV joke for those of you who remember it) ever since. PAUPER IN PARADISE, which includes "One Night with You," is better still, but this was my intro to this very talented singer.

Gino's is what I call symphonic sophisticated pop music. It is and was a higher art form of popular music. Peace

Thanks Todd. I never would have found him without you. Still listening with many others 35 years later.

To this day I still say most people don't know how good this guy is. As I was buying his albums from the 70's on I always felt his stuff was actually too good for the casual listener and i got some really odd reactions from people who never heard his stuff before. They had their favourites and would do anything do avoid admitting this guy had it over whoever their favourite was at that time. Harmonically, he was and is always a step ahead of the other guys--including Steely Dan
Perfect synthesizers texture. I agree with those who said the Vannellis are artisans. In spite of their hits this was out of the mainstream even then. I would call it SYMPHONIC FUNK.
