My mistake! The Stones cover is Waylon Jennings song Bob Wills Is Still the King. Sorry! But it's still awesome!

The Rolling Stones do a great live cover that's posted here on YouTube. Mick plays a vintage Gibson, Ronnie on steel, and Charlie giving it a Ray Price shuffle beat. Really awesome!

In response to musicmandon1: Could the lead on this song be Tommy Duncan?

Anybody know who sings the lead on this version? Love the voice. This is my absolute favorite Bob Wills song, and the only one I dared to cover. As a kid I heard Gene Autry's version, and had to do some growing before I discovered Bob Wills. The name was unknown in Jersey then, and is now. before I got a computer, it was next to impossible to buy a decent old_ country CD.
The song dates from a 1935 recording called "Spanish Two Step." Three years later the rearranged the song to change it and recorded as the San Antonio Rose, a fiddle instrumental. In 1940 the song was recorded again by the band, which was now featuring horsn and arrangements. This version had a vocal and was called The New San Antonio Rose.
So how would Bob Wills living in rural Texas have heard a French song...before 1935?

I have listened to multiple versions, including several by Bob Wills himself. It's Moonlit Path. Crosy says that, and he used the sheet music.
However Carl Smith says "moonlit pass"
Since tommy says Path, that's what it is...since Bob saw those lyrics on the screen, it must be correct.
A path beside the alamo makes much more sense, there's no pass there..

Bob Certainly di sing...on many records. His best I think was "My Confession."
His favorite song to perform was "Sittin On Top of The World."
He's a nice man. I met him on four occasions, including being present at the 1960 recording session that produced the second album featuring Bob and Tommy. Tommy Duncan was a hero to me. The core was Bob on Fiddle, Leon on steel, and tommy on Vocals.
