Stoutward Bound is a bridge program sponsored by Multicultural Student Services. Stoutward Bound is open to incoming, first-year students who can be identified as an American-ethnic minority. This program is designed to "jump start" the college experience by giving participants the support and encouragement needed for a successful transition to college. Throughout the academic year, students continue to participate in activities that promote a sense of community while learning strategies for success.

Students come to campus two weeks before the start of the fall semester, stay in university housing, eat in university facilities and attend structured class formats Monday through Friday. There will also be activities for you to participate in. And of course, you'll have free time too!

You will begin two classes two weeks prior to the fall semester. All Stoutward Bound students will be taking these two common courses together. By taking these common courses, students get to help one another and faculty can enhance learning by linking courses and discussions that will increase your level of learning and participation. These classes are on your fall schedule and continue throughout the semester:

SPCOM 100, Fundamentals of Speech (2 Credits)
PSYH 110, General Psychology (3 Credits)

*Students will be enrolled in two credited courses that count in their fall registration and are charged to fall bill and applied to financial aid package. No additional cost for starting courses early.

**If you took/or taking the test for AP Psychology and score a 3 or above, we suggest that you not participate in Stoutward Bound. Scoring a 3 or above is equivalent to taking General Psychology, which UW-Stout awards you those allotted credit as a result.
