Actually,Snuffy Smith did join the Army during WW 2-as many comic strip characters did.(Barney Google joined the Navy.)Snuffy saw action overseas and was honorably discharged after the war ended.Ironiclally,Billy DeBeck,who first drew Snuffy Smith,died in 1942-so when Snuffy was discharged Fred Lasswell(DeBeck's assistant)was doing Snuffy's comic strip-as he would until his death in 2001.
