Prof. Kevin Gutzman endorses the idea of a constitutional convention on the Glenn Beck TV Show on November 10, 2009. Leading constitutional scholars say this would put our Constitution at risk of being substantially revised by a "runaway convention."

  • He is completely wrong about encouraging a Con Con in this day and age for two reasons. A. Do you really want certain socialists with in the legislature or state legislators to make up the rules of engagement in order to promote their socialist agendas? B. look around do you really see enough politically active men or women for God to raise up in order to save the Constitution? I don't

  • @Stucifer

You speak as if the people who are bound the constitution now actually care what it says now. We are at the point where we don't have much to lose. Nothing happens no con-con and congress continues to tax and spend forcing us more into a socialist banana republic. Or we could take the chance and fix this congress and any future congress from ever abusing their powers again. 1st agenda of calling the convention should be on the note of appealing the 17th amendment.

  • @LibertyWins2012

I largely agree with you. The Constitution can be changed. But there is protocol that doesn't get followed. Now-a-days they ignore, and trample on our ceremonial Constitution. I can only post so many letters to a youtube response.

But "wholesale" changes aren't something I'd deem necessary.

You cannot control a Con Con. You don't know where it'll go, and who'll be the power-players.

Believe me.. it could get worse. I'm not for anarchy.

It would lead to our ruin

  • @Stucifer You mean wholesale changes unlike the ones that are imposed on us every freaking day? How could it get worse?

Easy to say, "Adhere to it as is." As is includes the 17th Amendment, which would have horrified the Framers and destroys the federal system.

  • If there was a Con Con, and they completely replace the original Constitution with some crappy socialist rag, couldn't states that oppose it just say "no thanks, we're out this time 'round"?

  • Your reference to "leading constitutional scholars" who warned of a "runaway convention" is actually to Justice Arthur Goldberg. He was one of the most promiscuous judicial legislators in American history. In fact, he's the one who invented the idea that the 9th Amendment reflected federal rights to various kinds of sexual practices. What kind of dunce would cite him as a "conservative?"

This is the level of argumentation the anti-convention crowd resorts to.

  • BEWARE ARTICLE V!

You don't know where a Constitutional Convention will lead.

It could lead to wholesale changes of our Constitution.

    Leave the Constitution alone!

    Adere to it AS IS!

  • tddmike you are one sick hateful dude...what you wish for others do wish for your self dear Christian. The US Constitution has sadly been overturned by big government agendas for the past 8 years & in this current admin. I do not vote to change the Constitution, but then again when has it ever been a people's vote?
