I had it in my mind that April and Russ were from the Boston area, but this says New York and Cinncinati with coaches in Detroit. Dancers are such gypsies that most end up competiting for a variety of clubs.
Boston developed a lot of successful dance teams in the late 80's early 90's, under the guidance of Barret Brown and number of other experienced pros at Wellesley Rink and the SC of Boston. They were dominating the event up until a Russian Professonal invasion in 1994. Boston Skating Clubs developed an innovative practice circuit with programmed dance sessions around the city on different nights at different rinks. Most dancers work in isolation, begging for adequate practice time. This program provided a great deal of worthwhile ice time for competitive skaters.
Russ and April were very popular and presented a very enjoyable style of ice dancing.
