Calliope rock and roll pumped through tin
and batteries, stamped out with precision.
Outrage half the fun! Never mind the beat.
Ginsberg Howled,
Kesey poked it with a stick.
Hemingway turned his back and hit the road.
Duck tails and fishing rods, belched exhaust
in the back of the old man's chevy
rolling down 66 going back to nature with sonny boy.
Neon mark sparking the trail.
Grease served up in burgers and pomade




Equally revered, the perfect equation.
Hold on tight, bright light.
Kings in the night that's us!
Damn the commies! Damn the Reds!
We got bombs and John Wayne
Yessiree bob!
Finger snapped and McArthy screamed.
Whispers feared heads bowed too long.
Ishmael had many faces.
Refuge in green lawned suburbia.
Dreams tripped across the screen, safe.
Shadow breathing, heavy ragged hunger
painted in silver glow flicker.
Heroes and villains dance in the peripheral.
Monster snarls and the scent of ten cent perfume draws closer,
thick as a cashmere sweater
Marilyn woulda curled a smile and
James Dean woulda done it right
at a hundred miles an hour.
Little Orphan Annie had a secret
and so did we
