This is a trip around my layout behind a MTH Railking GG-1. This engine is the MTH equivalent of a Lionel PW GG-1. The unit is not scale sized. The detailing is on par with my Lionel PWCC. The engine is PS-2 so it has cruise control. As far as I am concerned that is the only advantage over my Lionel GG-1. I find I prefer the PWCC sound set better. I am seriously considering downloading the scale sound set into this unit to see if the sounds are any better. The thing that really irritates me about this engine is the pickup rollers. The have a tendency to bump and arc on my UCS tracks and some of my switches. This issue is particularly bad on the grade transitions on my outer loop. Overall not a bad engine (once you fix it's little foibles) just not as good as the Lionel equivalent. As always comments are appreciated.

  • Nice vid. I like the perspective looking down the side of the G. Also, is that horn coming from the actual engine, or is it something you rigged up? Either way it sounds like the real thing! Very cool.

  • Thanks. The sound is part of the Protosound 2 electronics that are built into the engine.

  • Your scenery is coming along really nicely... The GG-1 sounds good, never had a chance to do a side by side comparison, but I'll take your word on the Lionel sounding better. I have the K-line version of the same engine. Really heavy, lots of pulling power and the detail levels about the same, it's down side is it's conventional... Can't wait to see some of those cool operating accessories running...

  • Right now my camera car is to wide to fit down my industrial sidings (or through my lift bridge.) When I get my new HD camera and get my cam car rebuilt I will be more than happy to do some industrial switching for you.

  • Cool! I would like to see a big steamer run on this. That would be nice!

  • I don't own very many steam engines. I mostly own diesel and electrics. most of the steam I have has already made an appearance. If I get something new or I find one that I haven't done yet I will certainly make videos of them.
