I worked on this film as one of the conceptual designers / storyboarder special props creators. The SPFX guys had just come off raiders of the Lost Ark (british guys) We made it in New Zealand. The name Nate & Hayes was forced on the producers by Steven Spielburg as he wanted to use the name savage Islands himself, which is why it didn't get the exposure it needed.

Savage Island is underrated adventure film of the 80's might be possible that film like Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom might be influence also The Pirates of the Carribean.

@LxxLxxx In some place, like Philippines, it was released as Savage Islands, though I knew it was originally called Nate and Hayes when it was shown in first class onboard a Singapore Airline 747 Jumbo Jet. We at economy had to sit through the dog-awful Buddy System. To me, Nate and Hayes was the last good pirate film...

One of the most underrated adventure movies of all-time, in my opinion. Pity that this movie did not get the exposure it deserves, although it's better if less of the fools of present day know about it. Thanks for uploading man!
StayUgly - I know, right! In England they released as Savage Islands, and in America as Nate And Hayes. Because Americans are known for their love of gay-sounding things that turn out not to be gay? I'm not sure.
Sammy31766 - You're totally welcome. This was one of my favorite movies as a kid, so I'm glad you were able to find it for your son.
