This is a French song for bass. It was made famous by Ezio Pinza. The story is that the singer likes the sound of the hunting horn at dusk in the woods. It puts him into a reverie where he is led to tears and finally it reminds him of Roland at Ronceaux.
It has a lovely sweeping melody with lots of low notes (F, E and D) yet it also has soaring high phrases. It's not done too often because most famous basses like Tozzi or Christoff can't manage the final low D. Yet it requires beauty of voice and nobility of line that profondos seldom can manage.
The Pinza recording is the gold standard, He also gets to use his filatura. Henri Medus also has a version. He has excelent low notes but almost nothing else.
Really lovely. Your voice suits this song perfectly - sing more of this, and leave Handel to the baritones. =D

@Taenyr Thank you very much. I have indeed given up on Handel.
