For a brief period in early 1986, Guiding Light alternated between different versions of its theme music. This is an example of a melancholy version used for somber episodes. The characters in the beauty shot are Mindy [Lewis] Corday (Krista Tesreau) and Kurt Corday (Mark Lewis).

  • did someone die in this episode?

  • No one died. Mindy Lewis accidentally knocked over a kerosene lantern and burned down the house Kurt Corday built for her. She kept her part in the fire a secret, which is why she looks so nervous in the beauty shot.

  • What's with all that dead space, starting with 1:16?

  • I had a satellite dish in the 80's, one of those early monster dishes before this sort of thing was regulated. This episode was a CBS west coast feed to affiliates, hence the blank spot between programming. I should have edited it out. Perhaps I was lazy that day.

  • I remember these closings, especially the music in the minor keys. Krista Tesreau was the best Mindy Guiding Light had. The worst one was that woman named Ann something. She was only on there for about two months, then they sacked her and hired Barbara Crampton.

  • I wish they'd make a website for old soap opera episodes. I've only seen a few old episodes of this show thanks to archivists, but it seems like a wonderful show.

  • Mindy was HOT!
