The Raffles Landing Site is named after Sir Thomas Stamford Bingley Raffles, who was the founder of the Singapore city. He not only founded Singapore as a trading post for the British East India Company, but did a lot of development work for the native population of this erstwhile trading post.

Raffles Landing Site is the place where this great man is believed to have set foot on the land of Singapore for the first time, in January 1819. The place is located in the vicinity of Boat Quay. Today Raffles Landing Site, which is named after him and is marked by the statue of Sir Raffles, has its surrounding areas dotted with many important buildings and skyscrapers. Initially the place was merely a green patch, but slowly and steadily as the economy of Singapore grew, the area saw stupendous development. This development led to the construction of many important offices, buildings and other establishments in the area.
