Funds controlling a majority of GM stock hold far more in oil company stock.
GM CEO Wagoner admitted that crushing the EV1 was his "worst decision". Why would he say that if it had not been forced on him?
Could GM's spectacular, historic fall from what was once the world's largest industrial corporation be due to simple incomptence? Or is it something closer to the collaboration of GM and Standard Oil, where GM supplies the hardware but Chevron makes money off the daily dose?
If you look on the Internet you will find extra-long-life batteries already developed. Also, many new developments in wind and solar energy. Problem is that everybody wants to squeeze some more profit out of the old tech first. Then ten years down the road they'll take a look at newer developments in these technologies.
And that, folks, is precisely how we got to this fine mess. Addiction to GREED! It really is a DEADLY sin.

I agree. Many people say we are in an energy crisis, but that's not true. We have plenty of cheap domestic electrical energy and plenty of room to expand it using a number of clean and efficient techniques. But what we don't have yet is a cheap and efficient means of storing that electrical energy. Batteries are just a little bit too expensive and take too long to recharge for the average consumer to be willing to switch over. So I think the best solution (or bridge) to pure electrics are EREVs.

WOW, look, another car that uses fuel that the oil barons can manufacture, monopolize, and enslave us with. My god people, do you not realize that if we develop electric vehicles, the electricity you put into the car could eventually be produced on your own roof. Using the current electric grid an EV typically gets 10 to 20 times the distance from $1.00 worth of elec. then a gas car can get from $1.00 worth of gas. Think about it, that's a 90% to 95% savings.
