@Underdog2020USA funny thing about that is that I rreally was smelling skunk, just about halfway through the video--a skunk & a cat had a brief fight outside my window! horrible smell yet timely.

@squiddie96 [Continued] By the 1980s, the SR-71 was vulnerable to attack, Soviet Mig-25 Foxbats could possibly have intercepted it. Even the SR-71 was incapable of overflight of the Soviet Union (U-2 spy plane missions having ceased after 1960). Subsequent spy planes capable of hypersonic speeds fulfill this mission, nothing we publicly acknowledge can shoot them down. Both China and Russia have temporarily blinded US spy satellites with lasers, in the past.
-
@squiddie96 [Continued] for example, when the strategic forces of hostile nuclear powers (China, Russia, North Korea) go on alert as a calculated response to perceived provocation, when foreign countries possessing such weapons threaten war against one another (Pakistan and India), or in cases of possible clandestine WMD proliferation when hostile regimes coordinate prohibited activity when US spy satellites are out of range (Iran, Iraq (during the 1990s), North Korea, Burma).[See Third Comment]

@squiddie96 I disagree, satellite surveillance is remarkable, but have inherent limitations. Hostile regimes are accutely aware of the periodic intervals they are under observation. UAVs can only be used against technologically unsophisticated enemies. As recent events have proven, even stealth UAVs can be undermined. There are events that require immediate reconissiance... [See Second Comment].

@Jsledge85 This is all very true, I'm just not quite seeing why there's such a big spiel over it's existence. Besides, this is all old news... We can get a live satelite image no problem. Even if they are out of position we don't need a multi-million dollar aircraft to get an image asap, it's an irrational scenario. Worst case we can send over a UAV

@squiddie96 It would be practical considering hypersonic flight would not only allow the US to penetrate foreign air space with impunity, but it would allow direct overflight of sensative military facilities with high resolution cameras when sattelites are out of position. The US would also have complete deniability so long as the aircraft remained classified. Otherwise, we would have to admit to deliberate breach of international law. The SR-71 wasn't even capable of direct overflight!

It flew over Flint, MI over a decade ago. Dad saw a single contrail surrounded by equally spaced rings above commercial flight level, and it went across the sky in like 13 seconds. I told him he saw a pulse detonation wave engine in action.

@triathlete007 Damn that's a hell of an experience! One never knows? Your probably right about what you saw?

il y a beaucoup de dessin et surtout beaucoup de version à ce projet. Je pense que c'est du rêve.
