I just bought the newer fan you have SAME EXACT FAN with original box at a yard sale. They wanted 20 but talked them down to 10 bucks. I LOVE this fan!

The older one needs terribly to be oiled....the newer one I purchased off the AFCA message board for $250....expensive perhaps but it's super rare and I do have the original box with this fan

I don't know if you knew this but as far as I know Vornados used and still use Fasco motors which are I think pretty flawless, I have 2 Vornados a 1990 Vornado and a 1970's Vornado box fan both in mint condition.

I can't disagree, I love my Vornado fans!
I guess it wuld be unfair to call the 280AE modern though since it was first made in 1989, but the design hasn't changed at all....they're both good performers though but I can tell you, the 280AE is a hell of a lot lighter! One hand with that and I struggle using both to lift the 40W1!
But that's nothing compared to the 60W1
