My first Moon videos were shot using a Meade ETX-80 and a cheap Logitech webcam. I then upgraded to a Meade ETX-90 and was still not satisfied.. Off to eBay it went...

So I upgraded again to a Celestron NexStar 8, Schmidt-Cassegrain 8-inch aperture Telescope and I hacked a Logitech HD webcam after having a little fun using the cheapy Logitech. Now yer talkin'.. this baby is powerful and very clear due to it's great light gathering quailty.. This webcam still has a CMOS sensor camera and someday I may look into hacking a higher quaility (and price) CCD HD webcam.. part of the fun is seeing if it will still work once ya tear it apart! :)

  • Hey, im using a celestron nexstar 4SE with a webcam, but i dont know how to get the webcam to be less zoomed in on the moon. when viewing the moon it looks like yours, very close, and I want to see the whole moon at once. has anyone got some advice? Please answer ! thanks

  • @archiecrew I haven't figured that out myself yet either. I'd like to hear a response also. I used my Flip CamCorder through the 40mm eyepiece and it worked rather well

  • @peeweethepinstriper thanks, ive got a flip video cam as well so ill give that a try!

  • @archiecrew I just used masking tape to secure it to the eyepiece... look through my videos and find the Lunar eclipse video.. it was taken with a Flip Ultra HD

  • @peeweethepinstriper Aww good view though :) so is yours the same as mine? I have the astromony book for dummies ;) Also live in london which doesnt help :( how far have you seen besides moon?

  • @sarajanegarr So far just the planets such as Mars,Jupiter, Venus and Saturn.. I need to take it away from our light pollution and look farther.

  • @sarajanegarr get the "star walk" app for your iphone (or any smartphone) it's a life saver for a dummy like me.. just hold the phone up like a "window" and see what's in the skies that night...It really is a very cool app, and FREE!! sorry I'm new too.
