@lunalechien I This is what Marcus had to say about slapping (copied from an interview posted on FretlessBass-com)
Marcus Miller: "I use fingers. Sometimes for jazz, I'll mute with my palm and play with my thumb. Every once in awhile I'll slap although I don't love that sound. I'll pull out a pick when the part is in a very low register and I want some extra definition. I did that on Wayne Shorter's "Highlife" and it worked well."

i think i speak for all of us when i say the best jazz (fingering) bassist that has ever lived is jaco pastorius,ps:the slap one is i think victor wooten or marcus miller or stanley clarke .There are so many good ones

@vracan I agree with you another great bass player is Tim Commerford from Rage Against The Machine. Look up their song "calm like a bomb live" the bass in that song is amazing.
