The Partisan (written by A.Marly/H.Zaret/Bernard),made famous by Leonard Cohen, 1969)

Recorded in the Blue White Studio at The Hague, Holland, May 11 2007.
Video by TW Media at Katwijk, Holland.
This is recorded during a one-time recording session without any re-recordings.
I just took my guitar and started playing and singing.
If I made any mistakes I didn't mind.

My personal thoughts on making music:
1) Music to me is by definition emotions. A song is an island filled with deep emotions and feelings and a song must be able to touch the listener in the heart and soul.
2) I don't believe in simply copying the orginal. Try to change a song into your own version of it. For instance in the way you play an instrument and/or sing or change tempo or add different musical arrangements, etc.
3)I don't mind playing covers of songs. In the classical music world almost everything consists of covers. The musicpieces of composers are often centuries old.In popular music it's no problem playing songs written and recorded by others.Just add what is specifically your own.
4) Music is always subject to people's personal taste. Your background, culture, the country you live in, your environment, etc, are factors that may influence your musical taste. But all humans have emotions and feelings. With music you can touch someone in the heart and soul and arouse emotions and feelings.
5) pure technical skills don't necessarily mean that a music piece or song is conceived as beautiful.
6) it are the listeners that will judge your songs and music. Not you as the musician or other people in the music business.

  • Not compareable to bluevasco's version.

  • I've watched his version and it's a copy of the original version by Leonard Cohen. Music isn't about copying an original. If you want to hear the original, listen to Cohen. Music is about adding to a song what is specifically your own. So the song becomes your song. On my channel's info I've written how I think about making music.Music is creating your own identity as a musician. Not becoming a copy of an existing musician. cheers, Ron!

  • Anna Marly has written the music in 1942 and one year later Joseph Kessel en Maurice Druon did write the lyrics. It became a song of the French resistance in WW2.

  • Yes I know, I changed the lyrics a bit of the french part in the song.Instead of "les allemands" I changed it into "les soldats". And some other minor changes to give it a general meaning and not specifically related to WWII. So contemporary listeners can relate to it too.

  • A good friend of my plays the Flamenco guitar. Have a look at his site! myspace dot com/edbeerepoot

  • Very good interpretation!

  • Great job, well done, BRAVO!

  • I like your version Ron, you did it really well, it adds another feel altogether . xxx

  • I too am a fan of Cohen's version and bluevasco's version is very nice. That said, bravo on your very different version. It is really unique and surprising. When you can take material that is familiar to many and make it into something fresh, you are operating at the highest levels of musicianship. Congratulations. Don't lose the capo! This range in your voice has a wonderful "keening" quality. Thanks for posting. This is a terrific performance.

  • try without a capo... like Mr.Cohen, gives it a more deep sound.

  • Brilliant arrangement!

    Way to go man!

  • it's not Cohen lyrics neither, this is really old song and Cohen covered as well

  • SUCH EMOTION!!!

  • omg....... :))))

  • quand c'est bien écrit et chanté ça peut etre que bien chanté encore, meme plus haut.bravo!
