Scenes Historiques, Op. 25

I. All'Overtura
II. Scena
III. Festivo

Composer: Jean Sibelius (1865-1957)
Orchestra: Gothenburg Radio Orchestra

Ainola stands on the scenic shores of Lake Tuusula in Järvenpää, about 30 minutes drive from the Finnish capital, Helsinki. It was the home of Jean Sibelius and his family from 1904. This timber-built villa was designed by the famous Finnish architect Lars Sonck. Its distance from the hustle and bustle of the nation's capital gave the composer the peace that he needed for his creative endeavours, while other artistic families living in the neighbourhood provided a lively social circle.

Picture: The north façade of Ainola. This was the normal direction of approach to the house. The main entrance is to the right and the kitchen is in the middle. The garden is to the south, on the other side of the building, from which there was originally a view down to the lake.

  • greatto have some lesser known Sibelius on here..for me he is simply the greatest composer of the 20th century.

  • Didn't know Sibelius could sound so Spanish!

  • Thank you imusiciki for this selection. I have The Essential Sibelius, under BIS, which hasn't left my desk for quite some time. There could be much more Sibelius on YT.
