A new, four-lane roadway is open in Jefferson County, providing improved access to an industrial park. Gov. Steve Beshear, joined by Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer and other officials, recently  celebrated the opening of the eagerly awaited Blankenbaker Parkway extension. The new roadway is six-tenths of a mile long. It connects Blankenbaker Parkway to heavily traveled Taylorsville Road. It also provides a direct connection from Taylorsville Road to the Bluegrass Commerce Park. Commuters can now reach the industrial park without having to navigate narrow, winding Chenoweth Run Road. The parkway extension also provides an improved route between the industrial park and Interstate 265.
Other features of the project included construction of sidewalks on both sides of the roadway and noise barrier walls for the benefit of neighboring residences. Total project cost was $9.4 million. Construction costs were funded through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
