Syria Receives International Condemnation

The United States banned Syrian oil imports and sanctioned five Syrian energy firms on Thursday.

US President Barack Obama also imposed additional penalties, including a freeze on Syrian assets in the US and a ban on investments in Syria.

In addition, the European Union said that President Bashar Al Assad had lost all credibility and warned of additional sanctions; foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton said that Mr. Assad should step aside.

The Syrian president addressed his ruling Baath Party on Wednesday, telling members that he wanted to the country to regain stability by witnessing an end to armed attacks; however, he refused to bow to foreign pressure.

According to a UN spokesman, Mr. Bashar on Thursday told UN head Ban Ki-moon that military force against protesters had stopped; in addition, Valerie Amos, the UN Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator, said that despite limited access in Syria the UN will maintain a presence there.

Tanks began withdrawing from Latakia and Deir Al Zor on Tuesday.

Reports allege that nine people were shot on Wednesday during protests in Homs.

On the issue of the western society I have to agree. We are all sacrificed to multi billion dollar corporations. And that is why the western governments (who are puppets of these corporations) dislice countries like libya iran and syria since they are not controlled.
