The turkish style drop spindle is fun to use - when you've finished spinning or plying, it slips apart leaving your yarn in a neat ball. More information about using a Turkish spindle is at: http://handspinner.co.uk/using_turkish_drop_spindle.html
The problem with two over and one under is I have trouble getting the ball up over the hook. Also, if you leave a tail from your leader yarn out the bottom the spindle and make sure you don't wrap it into the middle of the ball, you end up with a center pull ball of yarn. :)
After failing with several drop spindles, a friend of mine taught me how to use her Turkish Drop Spindle, and It was so much easier! But, I was taught to wind the yarn into a ball by going over two bars, and under one, over two bars and under one. It makes a much nicer ball of evenly distributed yarn.

this spindle looks so much lighter than mine and I like the way the wool comes off as a ball :-)
