You are right!
These engines for the same HP of the piston engine are lighter more compact, quieter, but emissions and fuel economy are a big issue.
The old ones was ware & tear, lucky to get 80kkm.
But on small airplanes they are a great option.

Please correct me if i'm wrong, but I think the problem with this type of engine is that, due to the geometry of the combustion chamber (which is narrow), the fuel-air mix doesn't burn as completely as they would on a cilindrical combustion chamber (since the flame front travel path is wider). Therefore it would be expected that this type of engine emits more polluent gases than the conventional ones.

este motor aprovecha mejor la fuerza producida ya que no se pierde teniendo q transformar un movimiento lineal (de un pistón) en un movimiento circular...estos vídeos son la leche...
