Praise to the Man who communed with Jehova!

The last of the mourners passed through the Mansion House at 5:00 p.m. on June 29, 1844. The coffins of Joseph and Hyrum were nailed closed and taken by hearse to the graveyard, though to elude malicious tampering, the bodies of the two Church leaders had been taken secretly to another location.

William W. Phelps, close associate of the Prophet Joseph, gave a stirring funeral sermon for the martyred Church leaders. "They can rest from their labors, and their works shall follow them," he declared. "Mourn not; these sons of God are safe; dry up your tears; confess the hand of the Lord in all things, and comfort each other with the sweet hope that their lives were precious in the sight of all heaven."

Phelps paid final tribute to the prophet of the Restoration, writing the hymn "Praise to the Man": "Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven! Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain. Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren; Death cannot conquer the hero again."

Praise to the man who communed with Jehovah!
Jesus annointed that Prophet and Seer.
Blessed to open the last dispensation,
Kings shall extol him, and nations revere.

Hail to the Prophet, ascended to heaven!
Traitors and tyrants now fight him in vain.
Mingling with Gods, he can plan for his brethren;
Death cannot conquer the hero again.

Praise to his mem'ry, he died as a martyr;
Honored and blest be his ever great name!
Long shall his blood, which was shed by assasins,
Plead unto heav'n while the earth lauds his fame.

Great is his glory and endless his priesthood.
Ever and ever the keys he will hold.
Faithful and true he will enter his kingdom,
Crowned in the midst of the prophets of old.

Sacrifice brings forth the blessings of heaven;
Earth must atone for the blood of that man.
Wake up the world for the conflict of justice.
Millions shall know "Brother Joseph" again.

  • @blackmamba54321 - well I joke because these same men have posters of "Michael Jordan" or Idolize "Brett Favre" or they watch the academy awards, cheer for their local sports writer or think that Obama is their hero.

  • @THELDSLIFE Naw. They just find the smallest things to complain about. Its pathetic really.

  • Folks who have a problem with "Praise to the Man."

    Then they should never go to an awards ceremony, receive a certificate, win a trophy, or do ANYTHING praiseworthy for the rest of their life PERIOD!

    Praise should not be confused with worship because we do NOT worship the man.

  • Some people don't seem to realize that our ancestors came to America for RELIGIOUS FREEDOM. So why aren't Mormons allowed to worship how they want? Its just down right wrong.

  • @7dmtuk87 China is a loony, and completely clueless. Joseph Smith was a true prophet of God.

  • everyone shut up, you wont stop the haters from hating, and returning the hate they give to the church with hate helps nothing, the people here activley working against the church will never stop, untill they are physically unable to do so

    if it seems they are simply confused thinking that praise and worship are the same then explain what that means, but if you see a hundred comments by the same guy saying we are frauds and heretics they wont stop. this is their chosen path, dont waste your time

  • @GreatGameFilms I am a small, fluffy chinchilla and I like to squeak; and I know that it is true that I am a chinchilla. It is true because I believe it is true.

  • @7dmtuk87 What did I say that was wrong?

    And I've been to a Baptist church where the children sang a song praising the good deeds of Old Testament prophets and leaders like Noah, Moses, Abraham, David, and Joseph and New Testament apostles, disciples, and prophets like Peter, John, Paul, and John the Baptist.

    Praise is different from worship. Why else do you always hear "Praise and Worship" coupled together. If they were synonyms, it wouldn't be necessary to include both words in the phrase. Parents praise their children all the time for making a good grade on a test or winning a tennis match. I guess billions of parents are heretical as well. Praise and worship mean 2 different things, my friend. I worship my Savior Jesus Christ and my Father in Heaven!
