I am an Atheist & i find your Vid's very interesting. You steer clear of the Woo & concentrate on the Academic stuff that i like so Thanx. Can't say you've changed my mind but you have made me think!
Much of your argument here and elsewhere essentially states that because we accept Tacitus as author, we must accept Gospel authorship. This isn't an argument: this is an assertion of the convenience of the authorship function. If Tacitus didn't write the Annals, fine. Not much really changes. If Matthew didn't write the Gospel, a great deal changes.
And the church fathers are hardly a reliable, objective bunch in this matter. This seems a classic "the bible is true because it says so" moment.
KTC, First off, I'm distracted by that picture of Bush behind you. I'm loosing your monoral oralation. Does that picture give you morning wood when you wake up?
A "solid case" for the resurrection of Jesus can be made from...
I'm sorry, I fail to see how a "solid case" can be made from doctrine. Your version of "solid case" and my version are from different planets apparently.
You are trying too hard to validate a shaky source; why? Why is it necessary?
Jesus was a mythological creation based on the Egyptian sun god Horus amongst others. So was Moses. The entire things is based on an astrological myth created by pagans and historised by the Romans.
Are you just reading from the refutations from popular apologists? Is that a picture of George Bush in the background?
If people put Jesus in the tomb, why is it most likely that God removed Jesus from the tomb rather than the same people that put him in or just "other people"?
(continued)... considering that Tacitus was writing about the reigns of the governors at the time. And if this information was found to be consistent with other reliable data about the leaders he was talking about, then historians can infer that it must have been written by somebody "in the loop" at the time of their reigns (namely a senator). Both of these factors make Tacitus by far the top candidate for authorship of the text. You must demonstrate the gospels have this kind of evidence...
You seem to frequently bring up the annals of Tacitus whenever the anonymity accusation is brought up concerning Gospel authors, but I have a slight objection. I do not think historians judge the veracity of Tacitean authorship based on attestation centuries later. The "Annals" contain a writing stile highly unique and characteristic of Tacitus (comparing to his earlier works), and the contents of the work can be rigorously verified... (continued next post)
