I have a question for a presentation I have to give. Where do you use it for? What kind of monsters can be analysed by this technique? And how accurate is this?

hi dr, i had one question .Can FTIR be used for samples like polycarbonate or other samples which are not transparent to IR? Is there any related technique for such materials?

@thecurioussoul88 FTIR can indeed be used for opaque samples. You need to have less sample in the beam. A typical way to do this is to grind up a small amount of your sample in a KBr powder and then press the result into a pellet. This pellet will have the sample dispersed, and then you measure its transmission. A second method is to use Attenuated Total Reflectance. ATR uses a high index of refraction crystal to measure only a surface layer of the sample that is pressed onto the crystal.
