On Countdown (Australia) 1981. The Blockheads are the band performing, but the audio is the studio version which featured other musicians, notably Robbie Shakespeare and Sly Dunbar. The song also appeared on Dury's "Lord Upminster" album - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Upminster

  • this is shit

  • @HOMEnHIGH Ah, so the noble art of considered thoughtful criticism isn't dead then.

  • @nearlyoutofideas Wow, great job synching the audio and the video.

  • @jdo3000 Thanks! Just a matter of choosing the right gizmo to transfer, really. (I use an ADSTech DVDXpress DX2 that advertised proper synching, but I don't think it's available any more.)

  • @nearlyoutofideas why did you you not use the actual live sound?

  • @MrFirthguy Ah, people are assuming I put the audio over a live recording. No no, this is how it went to air, with the Blockheads miming.

  • @nearlyoutofideas ..i like ian, love his persona, love the film, his band were awsome with that whole jazz funk thing they did, i think the band out shone him to the point where i think he was the wrong front man for them, although he was a good front man, his cheap school boy lyrics ruined their music, the only two songs that stand out were the very commercialized "hit me with your rhythm stick" and "reasons to be cheerful", and that is only due to the chorus, the actual lyrics are crap

  • This is nothing less than a battle cry.

    Gawd bless Ian Dury.

Dig the full 5 minute version!

  • I fucking love this
