It's a funny thing: the studios assert that pirated movies etc. cut into their profits. They have never provided even ONE example of that happening. It's all "It Just Stands To Reason"-- with no proof ever offered. They are chasing after dollars that aren't there.

I suspect that the people that buy pirated material do so because they can't afford the 'authorized' stuff. In other words, it's money the studios wouldn't have gotten anyway.

I'm all for piracy myself: the more the better.

The government always likes to use the slippery slope type argument. Also a good majority of counterfeits are produced in the same factories as the name brands. The rise of the internet probably reduced the amount of counterfeit dvd's and cds because why pay for what you can download for free?
