A phenomenon particular to Punta Norte, Chubut (southern Argentina), an orca speeds onto the beach and snacks on a baby sea lion. Of a pod of 30 orcas that visit this area, just seven of them practice this hunting technique, and only five of them are teaching it to younger orcas in the group (note at the end of the video that this orca had an apprentice shadowing him). Scientists, including those on Developing Sciences´prestigious Marine Team, are unsure as to why these orcas hunt this way here and nowhere else, but it probably has something to do with hunger. A special thanks to Damian for this thrilling, difficult to come-by footage.
It wasn't hunting, it was surfing.
