Sharpe has to become less than a man in the chaos of war. Rated R for violence.

  • I'm a reader of the books and I'm hesistant to watch the series after seeing how they TOTALLY messed up Sharpe's Rifles...I just can't buy that the films are as engaging or gripping as the books. The question is--are they? I mean, are they worth seeing? I know SB is hot and a good actor, but is he Sharpe? You get so attached to the brilliant charcter that Bernard Cornwell writes...

  • Well, Sean is definitely not my Sharpe. But he's a good version of the character. He has Sharpe's strength and that roguish air about him. It's nice to see on the screen some of the scenes you've only read about, but that is that. The series' production is cheap, most of the stories differ a lot from the books and the episodes are inconsistent: some are very good but others are terrible. But one thing is certain: any episode is better than Rifles. And the cast's performances are above average.

  • Kasabian would have been better but Sharpe is fucking brilliant anyway.

  • Yes, Sharpe is bloody brilliant! I had never heard of Kasabian before, I had to google it to know what you were talking about lol

  • Absolutely bloody excellent! Fab lyrics, great clips!

  • The character of Sharpe is VERY faithfully recreated in the films (despite some background and cosmetcs), as are Harper and many others, particularly Hakeswill

The overall thread of the plot is quite skewed in comparison with the books, but the soul of "Sharpe" overall is only complemented by the movies.

  • Sharpe's Waterloo is the best one yet.

  • and some stupid prat dubs music in - what a bonehead

  • Sharpe AND Pearl Jam! Two of my favourite things -my life is complete! What's not to like? :D

  • @musicalqueen....bernard cornwell himself says he sees sean bean when he writes sharpe, the series is low budget but excellently made and acted,of course they differ from the novels but there is much to enjoy about them, anyway, only one way to find out...

  • @musicalqueen101 series was great for me. I saw it before I read any of the books. sure it's cheesy because of the low budget stuff, but some of the episodes were really great fun to watch. there's really a pronounced difference between the old episodes and the last two that were made more recently. Sharpe and Harper are both fat and Harper is grey. also, Harper and his wife look alike.

  • Sharpe + Pearl Jam = a receipe for badassery

  • Sharpe's Company :)

  • what sharpe is it at 1:00? I really can't remember.

  • So you're saying I just got a bad one?

Thanks for the review. I think you may have convinced me to watch some and see if I like them any better. I wish these could be re-done with a decent budget. My nominee for Richard Sharpe? Richard Armitage anyone?
