  • "...The idea was to let him come past so that he would make the pace on the straights. He fell for it like an amateur. On the television, the commentators didn't have any idea what was going on: I was totally in charge and deliberately saving my strength and they said I was 'struggling'. Idiots."

  • What a classy ride. Thanks for posting this here, much better than those heart-breaking shots from the 1989 Champs-Élysées.

RIP, prof. Have fun on those great mountains in the sky.

  • @didittelove No, I can't. I didn't compete in the 90's, I was too old by then. when LeMond was 16, I was already 21.

  • @didittelove I raced from a start, as a novice(SR4), in 1976, to an American amateur status of SR 1 track, SR 2 road, retiring in 1983, with many victories on both road and track. Never went to Europe, even though I was invited many times. Not a fan of countries outside the US. I did go to CANADA, and got crashed in Toronto by Sean Kelly. He ran into ME, not the other way around. We both hit the deck. I finished every stage race I entered, and many pro's can't say that!

  • @didittelove I don't know what I'm talking about? How many races have YOU been in, much less won? I was a field sprinting specialist, and after a long day, big gears are the only way to proceed. Legs are tired, and the winners would most likely be in the highest gear they have on the bike. Usually a 53-13 or 12. And yes, I WAS a crazy fool! Why do you think I raced bicycles? Because I was a crazy fool, that's why!

  • @dan32113 yeah you can say that but I doubt if you can when those guys were racing in the 90s... a**wipe

  • @kotze5 right... from "We are Young and Carefree". He did a hat trick winning again in 1989 this time alone.

  • @arklat do you even know what you're talking about... 53x15 on the Poggio after almost 300kms at racing speed is huge crazy fool!

  • @dan32113 You are right. I am NOT a legend. Greg LeMond beat Fignon several times, However, I beat Greg LeMond several times. And not as kids. As a Senior Category 1! Can YOU say that? i"ll answer, NO!

  • @arklat yeah but your chicken feed compared to Fignon! He is a legend, are you???????? i"ll answer, NO!

  • He was the man that got me interested in cycling!!!

  • a 53x15 is not that huge. I won my first race in a 53x13. That is 110". That is a huge gear .You have to use a big gear to go fast enough to win.
