  • The sound is from Ghost trains, an out of print LP from Mobile fidelity. It is actually the sound of a Y6 and A class engine pulling a 175 hopper coal train over Blue Ridge just outside Roanoke, VA in 1957.

  • Is the Class A a blueline model, or is it a paragon model?

  • Good question. Its a borrowed engine. It has sound and a DCC decoder, and is about 4 years old.

  • :-)

Nice merging of model & real sound.

    Got some more?

  • Yeah, LOTS more, but lemme get some more scenery up so it doesn't look like crap.

  • It would be cool if you could do the black exaust comming out of the stack as the 2 locomotives were working hard up the hill.

Nice layout. How big is it?

  • Actually, N&W engines with the improved exhaust nozzles and large stacks and with the amazing drafting, they didn't smoke unless the stokers of grate shakers were working.

  • Something about the B&W makes it look more realistic... which is odd since I've seen more videos of this type of scene on the N&W in color than B&W. In any case nice weathering job on those locos. Don't know how it looks in color, but in B&W they look almost real.

  • @mrector3 I agree. I just love those As and Ys. Sadly I have never seen them personally. :( Great video though!!!

  • great video. How can anyone not have N&W as their favorite steam locomotive railroad? Best whistle, and best action. What other railroad used 3 articulateds to move it's trains. What other railroad had better articulateds? Some had bigger, some had faster, but none used them better. I know it is subjective, but I think the A and Y6 look better than the Big Boy's.

  • Very nice, even without the finished scenery. Are you trying to recreate the video? I actually got to ride behinde 1218 in excursion service, there's NOTHING like the real thing, you feel the sound more than hear it! Most model train video's are crap, but this one is nice.

  • Raw power in model form! :D

  • Very nice!! I live a couple of miles from the Blue Ridge grade out of Roanoke and this just looks awesome. Please post some more. Thanks

  • @FatSeal45 too big and too heavy.

  • man that is cool were did you get the sound recording nice 2-8-8-2 and 2-6-6-4 on the train i'm subing

  • Is this fake sound?

  • Very cool indeed! Try the 'Whistle Storm' sound track from O. Winston Link's 'Thunder on Blue Ridge', the SCREAMING whistle sends chills down your back and brings tears to your eyes, incredible soundtrack.
