Headshake is also called speed wobble.....but in my video it's not due to speed. And it's called tank slapper when it gets so bad that that you crash or when the handlebars touch the tank......I'm on a scooter so no tank. And I don't crash......but I do try again in the next video at higher speeds......so maybe you'll get lucky and see me crash then.

  • @ShiftNMove Wow, cool. I love statistics like this. Awesome quote.

  • Hahaha... As if you're about to say something important "Even if your front end, suspension and shocks are all lined up perfectly you still need to-- You know, these windshield wipers are just phenomenal, they... etc etc." I love you mordeth.

  • the family is in a convertible.

  • @oblivion007 what you're not taking into account is the exactly corresponding element to the density: the small volume means you're less likely to hit any given thing. A bullet fired at random will be less likely to hit someone than a car flung about at random. Both will be deadly, but smaller volume means less space is swept through.

  • prude- someone scared of sex or nudity.

  • I've heard that once, a bicyclist on a race was at about 90kmph (about 56mph) on a downhill and he ran over a dog passing killing them both, obviously because the bicyclist only has that paper helmet at 90kmph and the dog had no protection... I feel more sorry for the dog, but still, the guy was on a race not expecting to hit a dog.

  • @oblivion007

Now comparing the consequences of the energy density upon impact is that the motorcycle will be like a missle and penetrate the vehicle that it impacts whereas the truck will total the vehicle that it impacts about said area.

I'm dissing motorcycles seeing that I have one myself but just pointing out some flaws. Motorcycles are deadly as well to other people.

Also @ M13, these aren't statistics but more rather on the figures/calculations side. Stats are with the area's.

  • @oblivion007

The x that satisfies the equation above is 44.2719 m/s which in mph is 99.0334198 mph

Then when you divide by the frontal impact area you get

    2 Ton Truck - 355340/2.1 = 169210.

    400 lb Motorcycle - 355340/.5 = 710680

The motorcycle clearly has a greater density by a factor of 4.2 times.

This makes a huge difference like comparing a 2lb marble vs a 2 lb kick ball....

  • @13mordeth

    Truck 4.2m^2

Lets take half since about half will be what is to impact.

    Sports Bikes

.4 - .6 m^2 according to Motorcycle Dynamics by Vittore Cossalter

Ther thing you have to take into account here is not so much the energy but the energy density.

In this case a planar density.

So start with energies, sorry for being metric but it's what I work with.

    400 0.45359237 .5 (0.44704 140)^2 = 355340. Joules

    4000 0.45359237 .5 (0.44704 x)^2 = 355340. Joules

  • What a jerk.

  • hey mordeth...i looked into this with my scooter. when i'm the only person and there is little or nothing weight under the seat my scoot goes perfectly straight but if there is over 10-15 kg under the seat it goes all gay on my front tire and steering bar...very much like in your demonstration above
