This is a PSA video about Zach's Law and soccer goal safety. It features the family of Zachary Tran, who died in 2003 when an unsecured soccer goal tipped over on him. Zach's parents Michelle and Jayson Tran and sister Alli are interviewed. The PSA aims to educate the public about the danger of movable soccer goals and Illinois' new Zach's Law, named after Zachary Tran. The PSA guides viewers to anchoredforsafety.org for soccer goal safety information, and is sponsored by the Chicago law firm of Corboy & Demetrio, which represented the Tran family in their lawsuit stemming from Zach's death. The PSA campaign is in partnership with Anchored for Safety, which was founded by the Tran family to help prevent soccer goal injuries and deaths.

Jonathan's Law was passed in Arkansas in March 2011 - sadly 2 more deaths have occured in 2012 due to unanchored soccer goals. Numerous injuries that don't end up in death go unreported to help bring the awareness to more people but the danger is real and isn't a huge request to ANCHOR the goals down - especially since they come with the goal but don't get anchored properly....let's make sure this gets done.

So sad. So sorry to hear that this could've been easily preventable with anchors or bag of sand. I pray for Zach Tran and I pray that this never happens again.

This happened to our keeper during practice. Standard sized goal and all. Luckily, my coach yelled in time for her to flinch only having it glance off her head enough to give her a concussion, but nothing more. Wish it was anchored, we lost an important game b/c of her condition and her pushing herself to play. Luckily, that's all we lost.

this is a terrible thing, im so sorry to the family. i play soccer in my home state and there is wind all the time and i refuse to play goalie because of the horrible goal safety. this should be a law to protect all the soccer players in the US! LONG LIVE ZACH!!!!

First, I'm all for goal safety and anchoring. But the idea that a LAW should be required is absurd.
Just looking at the numbers and some simple probability math shows that the odds of a particular child getting hit by a goal is 1 in 2 BILLION. The odds that any child on that particular field getting hit is 1 in 100 MILLION. Based on 4M players & 500K goals in USA.
Many times more likely to die on the way to the game, so let's ban cars or require us to move in big bubbles of airbags?

I'm so sorry. This is heartbreaking. The president of our soccer league sent this out to all the parents and coaches to avoid this happening again.
