@Finnraft. To insinuate that the Govt doesnt engage experts to research which power generation is the best for New Zealand is a nonsense, do you also believe that 9/11 was a CIA plot.If you think that you can say that I dont have an understanding about politics in everday life then you underestimate me. To solve the problem of our future power needs we need to address the real issue which is to reduce population (stop breeding) then we would need less generating capacity.

@MrZzr12 Govts don't always do what is best for NZ. They pursue their ideology, and cater to entrenched interests, including the banks. As for population overshoot, foreign aid locks in poverty and high birth-rates across 80% of the world, through conditional loans from the IMF and World Bank. In 2002, the peripheral countries were paying 9 times more in debt service than they were loaned (WB figures). The global population can't be reduced until that changes and living standards are raised.

No Hydro no Wind farms No nuke power = NO POWER simple really. Before you make rash statements think we need solutions not clowns who point out the problems and not much else. I would stab a guess that the writer of this tripe is a fuckwit greeny who has never worked a day in their pointless lives.

@MrZzr12 What's wrong with a modest windfarm, suitably located? What's wrong with Neptune Power's project off Cape Terawhiti with a potential output of 12,000MW? All of NZ only uses 9,000MW. For your information, this writer has heavily researched the energy industry. I would guess that you have never heard of revenue decoupling, or even fractional reserve banking. You probably don't understand why mega projects are preferred over distributed energy. Hint, asset sales, aka 'free' trade.
