I also believe that you should resolve the rewards of beating the challenge before you draw the new location. This can change things when the effects bring out new monsters as you card did. Luckily you didn't place it on the new card and it made no difference here.

there actually was a place for a monster to appear; it is on the adventure that you placed the monster anyway. The top task is a lore surrounded by a white box. the white box is a partial monster task and the monster should cover it up in place of it.
