China's main goal is to keep stability. They have a huge army to deter possible foreign invaders (Understandable that they don't want history repeated). And how can China be a threat? They won't. They're smart enough to know that any war with a country with a nuclear arsenal will have no winners. Also, NATO sides with the U.S. Why all this paranoia?

China's main goal is to keep stability (by repressing it people by it's vast internet censoring bureacracy and police), as well as threatening its neighbor's (Japan, Taiwan, Phillipines, etc) as it vies for control over the Spratley Islands and the South China Sea. China also steals U.S. technology through its several front companies it has set up in the West. It has no respect for the rule of law (have you forgot about what happened in Tian An Men in 1989?). The first two minutes was terrible. The whole speech was terrible. He forgets that intentions change when money and nationalism gets in the way. Their spending in military and defense should alone spell out their intentions. You don't live in China anymore. You don't know their government. And history does not show the state in which China is now. China is a threat.

I belived the same untill recently. Then I got an education and learnt how advanced they have become. The notion that the US is more advanced is based only on the now. If the graphs of increaseing technology were compared, China is on a steeper curve. In time they will overtake.
