My photographic slideshow of St. Margaret's Shrine in Bridgeport, Ct. If you like your Jesus in hard candy form, this is for you. Visit www.michaelraleigh.com to see all my painted and mixed media work.
I think the video is really interesting, but it really doesn't reflect the shrine at all. Yes it can use some maintenance, but it's far from scary. I had my 1st communion there and for Catechism I used to go there all the time. There's nothing scary about it. Although one could argue that Bridgeport, CT is a scary place to someone whose not used to it and so by extension if your afraid of BPT, then I could see how you might think the shrine as scary.
I went to St. Margarets as a child, I felt it was a very holy but scary place as a 6 year old. Every time I left I was weeping for Jesus. I must admit though I do not attend church anymore, I was given a good and honest heart through my visits to the church. I now live in California but for some strange reason, this Easter Sunday, St. Margarets church came into my head. Maybe I should start going back to church.....
Rosewood513 ... St Margaret Shrine is on Park Avenue in Bridgeport, CT, just north of Capitol Avenue. There is a Park Avenue exit off the Merritt Parkway (Exit 47) and the shrine is 3 miles or so south of the Merritt on the right hand side
Thank you Michael! This was our parish when I was a little religious fanatic child growing up about 3 blocks from there. Every week when the mass was over, we'd light a candle, put a dime in a box, get a cup of Holy Water from the spout in the mouth of that face shown.
Then down to the parking lot where all the parishioners, in an attempt to get out of there first would try and cut each other off, blow their horns and flip each other the bird.
I have visited St Margaret's Shrine many times in my life and in fact we had our wedding pictures taken there almost 50 yrs ago. At one time it was a place of beauty. It still is very special although it is in desperate need of volunteers to keep it up, thanks for the video.
Excellent satire! Gotta listen to Tom Waits when it comes to all things God. (Fav Waits lyric "There's no Devil, just God when he's drunk").
Great images here with a perfectly twisted mindset. Really fascinating photos. Also, I love the companion piece here on YouTube. MichaelRaleigh did another great and artistic piece here.

I wonder if John Waters knows about this place?

A satiric comment on Catholicism ! I liked the way the statues really do look like chocolate and candy.
